Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

One thriller convention is that thrillers create a sense of suspense and tension. They would do this by the type of shot used, the music, lighting etc. One example of this is in Harry Potter. From this extract we can infer that both the lighting and the music create tension for the audience, by the lighting being very dark and the musics tempo increasing as the soldiers were jumping to the ground. In my groups thriller, we used music and certain types of shots to also create tension. When used a pan shot to create the tension when the business man realised he has lost the bag. we also used fast tempo music to also create tension when the business man is chasing the man who has the bag.

Another thriller convention is that in thrillers, normally there is a protagonist who is dis empowered. Most thrillers normally have a protagonist against an antagonist. At some point both characters will eventually meet. This will be when the action starts to happen. One example of this is in skyfall. This extract shows Javier Bardem (the antagonist), getting closer and closer the murdering someone and bond (the protagonist) trying to catch up to him and will soon meet up and spark the violence. In our thriller we also had an protagonist and an antagonist. The antagonist was the the business man chasing the man with the bag and the antagonist was the man with the bag being chased.

We used conventions of thrillers instead of copying the conventions. This was because in our questionnaire, people said that said that they like things like fast pace action, and red herrings etc so we wanted to give the audience exactly what they wanted, not trying to tweak it because this could have lead to the audience disliking it.
